Aligning Talent with Business Strategy

People are a company’s most competitive asset. With the short window CEOs have to get alignment, increasing demands and scrutiny from stakeholders, the regulatory landscape and activist climate, pace of innovation and increased scrutiny on boards, proactively ensuring business strategy is aligned with talent strategy – and that the right team in place to bring that strategy to life – creates value in the face of relentless short-term pressures.

Teneo Talent provides a wide-range of services including: CEO Advisory (strategic alignment, organizational design, CEO effectiveness and impact, C-Suite succession planning); Recruitment (C-Suite and board, corporate affairs) and Board Advisory (board and governance effectiveness, CEO succession planning). Our senior-led talent team is composed of members with broad experience in a number of relevant disciplines including: talent and strategy alignment; corporate governance; diversity and inclusion; and consulting.

A CEO’s effectiveness is closely linked to their ability to formulate strategic intent, hire the right team to ensure operational excellence, and communicate effectively to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. When activated all together, CEOs are in a much stronger position to lead through transformation, as well as from a valuation standpoint.

Teneo partners with CEOs to maximize effectiveness, impact and legacy. Our executive development program is comprised of a number of services, including: (i) helping CEOs formulate and articulate strategic intent; (ii) working with incumbent CEOs to plan for transitions; (iii) structuring best practices to guide leadership, manage risk and create opportunity; (iv) assessing and helping leadership teams enhance performance; and (vi) assisting with the development of one, three and five year priority planning and organizational design, as well as devising six month and one to three year business models that are aligned with talent strategy.

Teneo Talent offers a full set of resources to assist with not only the C-Suite selection process, but also the subsequent transition into the new role.

As part of the recruiting process, we: (i) evaluate talent management strategy against business strategy; (ii) define must-have requirements and leadership attributes of role(s); (iii) assess candidates and facilitate interviews; (iv) assist in negotiation and referencing and; (v) work with the newly-selected leader to ensure accelerated impact via our “180 Day” plan, crucial to setting the right tone.

The spotlight on boards continues to intensify with increasing demands and scrutiny from a variety of stakeholders – institutional investors, activists, the media, regulators and customers. The challenge of creating long-term shareholder value in the face of short-term pressures, combined with ongoing developments in corporate governance, has resulted in the effectiveness of the board as a high-functioning team, taking on even greater importance. A strategic, high-functioning board is well positioned to navigate complexities and add value. For the board to most effectively serve as an asset, best practice calls for proactive evaluation of board effectiveness on an ongoing, as opposed to reactive, basis.

Teneo Talent partners with boards to identify areas of vulnerability and opportunity. Our advisors will ensure the board is aligned, works well as a team, and brings world-class insights, diversity of experience and in-depth knowledge. Simply put, board effectiveness is a disciplined method to unlock value, take your board from “good to great,” proactively manage the threat of activism, and send a strong signal to investors.
